At Buda UMC, the practice of Hospitality is not merely a checklist of niceties and good manners. In the Bible, the practice and extension of hospitality are acts of Justice.
In Leviticus 19:34, God commands their people to welcome and love the foreigner as themselves. To love them for no other reason than because God’s people were once foreigners!
Even from the Gospel of Luke, the religious elite accuse Jesus of welcoming sinners. Jesus’s welcome is characterized by Jesus sharing meals with sinners!
In other words, Jesus extends hospitality indiscriminately, in part because acts of hospitality embody God’s love for all people. Acts of Hospitality bring balance to a world that often works against the vulnerable, those who need shelter, food, clothing, and places of belonging.
At Buda UMC, the Hospitality Committee looks to practice and actively plan to fulfill God’s call for hospitality. From the welcome on Sunday morning to meal trains for the sick and those in need to the campus layout, the Hospitality Committee strives to embody hospitality, believing that even the smallest details reflect God’s great love for all people.
